The Hon’ble Prime Minister in his independence Day speech 15 August, 2007 made an announcement regarding Development mission. In pursuance of this Department of higher Education launched a scheme namely “Sub-mission on Polytechnic” for establishment of new Polytechnic in the District, where there is no Polytechnic College. The Government of India has also sent a list of District which have been identified for providing assistance to the State Government for opening the polytechnic Colleges in the Government for opening the Polytechnic Colleges in the Government sector in 7 districts in Tamil Nadu viz., Theni, Thiruvarur, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Karur and Perambalur.
Government of Tamil Nadu has issued order for the establishment of Government Polytechnic College, Perambalur and approved the following coerces.

The College was functioning from 30-08-2010 in a temporary building located at 73, old LIC building, Trichy main road, Venkatesapuram, Perambalur. The College was moved to the permanent campus in 2011. This is located in Keelakanavai, Velur (po) which is 12 km from Perambulur.
Mandate:
Government Polytechnic College, Perambalur, approved by AICTE, is to offer full-time Diploma program in engineering disciplines to candidates selected according to state Government norms, using the curriculum and evaluation system prescribed by the Directorate if Technical Education, Chennai.
The Institute continuously endeavors to build sustainable Relationship with Industries, business houses and educational Institutions to produce employable candidates to meet the needs of industry.
